China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Ministry of Ecology and Environment jointly released updated mandatory environmental regulations for laundry supplies. The new rules set strict limits on phosphorus content in all washing powder products. Manufacturers producing over-standard high-phosphorus detergent must upgrade production lines within three months; factories failing rectification will face production suspension. Authorities will offer financial subsidies to enterprises developing fully biodegradable washing powder formulas, aiming to cut water eutrophication caused by domestic sewage and push the whole laundry industry toward low-carbon development.
